TIPS
TIPS trains servers, sellers, and consumers of alcohol how to prevent intoxication, drunk driving, and underage drinking. Participants learn the state and local liquor regulations, how to identify signs of intoxication, and how to use excellent customer service skills to maintain profitability while ensuring safe consumption. TIPS training is required in many cities and towns in Massachusetts and is strongly recommended for every person involved in the sale or service of alcohol. The TIPS exam is administered at the end of the course. Upon passing the exam, participants receive TIPS certification valid for three years. The course does not guarantee that participants will pass the exam.
Instructor: Dan Zunitch.
ServSafe
ServSafe is the nationally recognized food safety and sanitation course required for every restaurant in Massachusetts. ServSafe gives managers knowledge and tools to understand the critical importance of food safety, and how to share this critical information with every employee. Some concepts include: sanitation; the dangers of food borne illness, how to prevent it and the keys to food safety; preventing cross-contamination; the flow of food through the operation; how to use time and temperature control effectively; safe receiving, food storage, preparation and serving; safe cooling and reheating; and pest management. The ServSafe exam is administered at the end. Upon passing the exam, participants will receive ServSafe certification valid for five years. The course does not guarantee that participants will pass the exam. A workbook is available in the MWCC bookstore and must be read prior to the start of class.
