Dual Enrollment – Full Time

The Dual Enrollment program offers juniors and seniors enrolled in a high school or home school program the chance to enroll in college classes prior to their high school graduation. Admission into this program is a competitive process. The average applicant has a 3.2 high school grade point average (GPA). This program offers a unique and true-to-life academic college experience, allowing the high school student to focus on courses that will be transferable to most two-year and four-year public and private institutions while completing their high school graduation requirements. Students are enrolled in either a part or full-time course load and college level courses. Students participating in Dual Enrollment are considered MWCC students and as such will be awarded the same library and academic support privileges as MWCC students.

Cost

Students participating in the Dual Enrollment Program will pay current tuition and fees. Additional costs may include books, lab fees and materials. Current high school students are ineligible to receive financial aid. Current tuition rates are available on our website at www.mwcc.edu and are subject to change.

Transportation

Students are responsible for their own transportation. The MWCC Gardner campus is on the MART route, and schedules are available in the admissions office. Application Process. To receive priority, applications are due no later than August 1st for fall enrollment and December 31st for spring. All applicants will require both parent/guardian and guidance counselor approval and completion of a personal interview.

Testing

Placement testing required for all MWCC Dual Enrollment applicants. Testing will take place at MWCC. Students testing into developmental courses will not be accepted into the program.

Acceptance

Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis. High school students who have a minimum of a cumulative 2.8 GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) for full-time enrollment or 2.5 GPA for part-time enrollment, meet the placement testing requirements, are recommended by their high school guidance counselor and complete the interview process will be considered for acceptance to the program.

Advisement/Registration and Participation

Dual Enrollment students will meet with their MWCC advisor to register for their individual classes and throughout the semester as needed. Students may enroll in a maximum of 16 credits each semester. A student whose semester GPA falls below a 2.0 during any one semester will be ineligible to continue in the Dual Enrollment Program. Students must comply to all MWCC student policies as outlined in the MWCC Student Catalogue.

Academic Credit

When a semester has been successfully completed, students will earn college credits which may be transferable to most two and four-year public and private institutions of higher education. In addition, students will receive credit from their participating high school to meet their high school graduation requirements. First priority will be to place students in those courses required by their high school for graduation. Students are responsible for insuring that MWCC college course work will be acceptable for secondary school diploma completion through their Guidance Counselor.
