North Central Educational Opportunity Center

Educational Opportunity CenterAn EOC TRIO Program

Adults living in the 29 cities and towns of North Central Massachusetts are served by the North Central EOC administered by Mount Wachusett Community College. The primary goal of the Educational Opportunity Center is to assist participants in the planning and implementation of an educational plan which may include high school equivalency preparation, ESL courses, technical or professional training, and college.

Designed to provide support for first generation college students and those with income challenges, the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is one of the nationwide TRIO programs created through federal legislation over 39 years ago. TRIO participants represent a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The North Central EOC has been in operation since 2002.

The North Central EOC serves 1,000 adults annually, of whom at least two-thirds must be income eligible and potential first generation college students. Both individual counseling and group activities provide participants with academic, career, and financial preparation. The EOC is staffed by advisors who understand adult learners’ needs. They are knowledgeable in admissions application procedures, financial aid information, student loan default prevention and rehabilitation, and career assessment and placement. Services are available to individuals who have discontinued high school, left postsecondary education programs, or who have not yet pursued higher education.

Our main office is at Mount Wachusett Community College’s Leominster Campus . EOC Advisors also provide outreach and counseling services in satellite locations throughout North Central Massachusetts. The staff of the North Central EOC provides services to all eligible participants.
