Throughout late summer 2012, Mount Wachusett Community College hosted a series of advising and registration events, called Smart Start Registration Events.  These events have now concluded.  However, there is still time to register for the Fall 2012 semester!

If you have been admitted to the college and taken the college placement test, you can walk-in to register!  Just walk-in to your campus of choice (Gardner, Leominster, or Devens) and ask to speak with an academic advisor.

If you have not taken the college placement test, contact the Testing Center now to schedule a test.  The Testing Center can be reached at (978) 630-9244.  A schedule of available test times can be found at mwcc.edu/testing/appointment.

Congressman James McGovern visited MWCC on April 9 to tour the campus, learn about the college’s academic and community initiatives, and meet with President Daniel M. Asquino and college officials. Congressman McGovern, who currently represents the 3rd District, is reaching out to residents and organizations in what will become the reconfigured 2nd Congressional District and will include the city of Leominster, the site of one of MWCC’s satellite campuses. Population shifts evident through the 2010 U.S. Census resulted in the elimination of one of Massachusetts’ 10 congressional districts. Congressman John Olver, the region’s current representative, is not seeking re-election in November.

Massachusetts Secretary of Veterans’ Services Coleman Nee and Lt. Governor Timothy Murray were among the state officials and legislators who participated in a roundtable discussion on Veterans in Higher Education, held March 19 at MWCC.

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas visited MWCC on March 15 to tour the campus, learn about the college’s academic and community initiatives, and meet with President Daniel M. Asquino and other college officials. Congresswoman Tsongas, who currently represents the 5th District, is reaching out to residents and organizations in what will become the reconfigured 3rd Congressional District and include the municipalities of Gardner, Fitchburg, Lunenburg, Lancaster Westminster, Townsend, Shirley, Ashburnham, Ashby and most of Winchendon. Population shifts evident through the 2010 U.S. Census resulted in the elimination of one of Massachusetts’ 10 congressional districts. Congressman John Olver, the region’s current representative, is not seeking re-election in November.

The Financial Aid Office is pleased to offer weekly workshops to provide one-on-one assistance to students to complete the FAFSA online. Workshops will be held every Friday from 10am to noon through May 11. We will also hold late afternoon workshops on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on April 17, April 24, May 1 and May 8. Senator Stephen Brewer, Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, along with Senator Jennifer Flanagan and Representatives Richard Bastien and Stephen DiNatale joined Division of Capital Asset Management Commissioner Carole Cornelison and MWCC President Daniel M. Asquino to announce the release of funding for the study and design of MWCC’s new Science and Technology Building and the modernization of the current infrastructure.  The study and design phase of this project will take approximately 18 months. Once this phase is complete, funding would follow to construct the $38 million facility.
