Daniel M. Asquino has been president of Mount Wachusett Community College since August 1987. He holds a Ph.D. and M.P.A. in Public Administration and Political Science and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Southeastern Massachusetts.

Since arriving at Mount Wachusett Community College, Dr. Asquino has focused his efforts on improving curriculum, community outreach, and economic development. Under his leadership, college enrollment has grown to over 8,200 credit and non-credit students, faculty and staff has risen to over 1,000 employees, satellite campuses have been established in Leominster, Fitchburg, and Devens, and the college has become a leader in renewable energy and civic engagement. Dr. Asquino, working closely with Gardner businessman and philanthropist Leo P. LaChance and MWCC Foundation Executive Director Darlene Morrilly, completed a capital campaign that raised nearly $4 million.
Dr. Asquino is serving a one-year term as chair of the College Board's National Community College Advisory Panel. He has been a member of this panel since 2004. He is also a member of the Community College Council’s Labor Relations Committee and chairs the Distance Education Committee of the Council. In addition, he is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges Commission on Learning and Technology. Dr. Asquino has twice been chosen to chair the Committee of Community College Presidents. He has also served as two-term chair of the New England College Council and the chair of the Continuing Education Board at Roger Williams University. He served on Governor Deval Patrick's higher education committee, one of 15 groups that formed his transition team, in 2006.
Dr. Asquino has served as chair of the North Central Massachusetts United Way Board of Directors, chair of the North Central Massachusetts United Way Campaign, co-chair of the Massachusetts Service Learning Compact, chair of the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce, and on a number of regional statewide and national commissions and committees.
His honors include the 2006 Distinguished Citizen by the Nashua Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, the 2005 Dr. Robert H. Goldman Community Service Award, Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce’s 2002 Citizen of the Year Award and Community Service Award, Nashoba Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership and the Governor’s Pride in Performance Award.
Dr. Asquino is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Heywood Hospital, the GFA Supervisory Board and the Executive Board of the North Central Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Asquino continues to teach Public Administration graduate classes at Roger Williams University.
