MWCC Offering Accelerated Training in Medical Device Manufacturing Technologies

Mount Wachusett Community College, in partnership with Operon Resource Management, is recruiting adults of all ages, experience and education for training in the field of medical device manufacturing. This five-week training program is designed especially for unemployed or underemployed adults, veterans and recent high school graduates who want to train for careers in medical device manufacturing and related industries.

The Medical Device Manufacturing Program runs Sept. 17 to October 17 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 9 p.m. at MWCC’s Devens campus. Students who successfully complete the program will earn an MWCC Certificate of Completion, OSHA 10-hour Safety Certification and the National Career Readiness Certificate, while learning about working in the fast-growing, federally regulated, medical device manufacturing field. Additional sessions will take place in fall 2013 and in 2014.

Program content prepares eligible students for entry level positions as assemblers, operators, inspectors and technicians. Participants possessing higher level skills may also find employment in quality control or as group leaders. The course includes hands-on, lecture-based material as well as self-paced KeyTrain curriculum leading to the National Career Readiness Certification. Workplace success skills as well as technical content related to quality functions are also incorporated into the program.

Students must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Scholarship funds are available through a grant to Mount Wachusett Community College and Operon by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Rapid Response Program.

Students will have access to staff members who will assist them with the registration process, facilitate access to support services, and help them with their search for employment when they have completed the certificate program successfully.

This program is supported by the Massachusetts Community Colleges & Workforce Development Transformation Agenda, which is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration (TAACCCT).

Information sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. through Oct. 3 at MWCC’s Devens campus, 27 Jackson Road. To register for an information session, call 978-630-9569.
