Transfer Steps

Think about where you want to go when you reach your goals at Mount Wachusett Community College. Begin planning your transfer strategy by your second semester.

The Transfer Continuum

First Semester MWCC | Second Semester at MWCC | Middle Semesters MWCC
Final Semester MWCC | Four-Year College

The earlier you begin the transfer process, the more prepared you will be to choose the college that is right for you, and take advantage of transfer opportunities. Choosing the right college is like buying a house or a car. It is a huge investment and you will want to get the most out of those hard-earned dollars.

First Semester at MWCC

Believe it or not, this is a good time to start thinking about transferring from Mount Wachusett Community College to a four-year college. It is also time to consider what you want to do once you graduate from college with a four-year Bachelor’s degree. Will you want to continue on to earn a Master’s, Doctorate, or other degree, or will you be ready to enter the work force? It is good to have a general idea of your career path at this point. After all, that is the main reason why most of us go to college . . . to prepare for work.

Choosing the right major, and the right classes, at MWCC can save you time and money, as well as hassle, when the time comes to transfer to a four-year college. If you are unsure of the career you want to pursue, you can meet with an MWCC Career Counselor, at no cost, once you are accepted at MWCC.

Look for Scholarships and Other Resources

  • Meet with your academic adviser to be sure that you are taking the right classes to complete your program/major at MWCC
  • Call four-year colleges to arrange for campus tours. Many colleges have open house sessions each semester – visit the Transfer Services Table and Bulletin Board located in the hallway to the cafeteria
  • Visit four-year colleges and universities and meet with Transfer and Admissions staff as well as students
  • Find out what MWCC credits will transfer to the four-year college of your choice and choose your MWCC classes accordingly.

Final Semester at MWCC

After 60 or so credits at MWCC, you will have earned an Associate’s Degree and will be ready to transfer to a four-year college to complete your undergraduate degree.

  • Be aware of the application deadlines for each college you are considering. If you are planning to utilize the benefits of Joint Admissions to assure acceptance to the applicable program at the four-year college, be sure to complete the appropriate Intent to Enroll form (available in Transfer Services, room 134G, Advising & Counseling Center) by the designated deadline.
  • Submit your application(s) or Intent to Enroll form before the designated deadlines
  • Include the codes of the colleges you are considering on your Financial Aid forms (FAFSA)
  • Remember to submit your Petition to Graduate (available in the enrollment center, and online), with $20 to the Bursar’s Office
  • Check in with the MWCC Transfer representative to be sure you are on track
