Welcome to the MWCC Nursing program, where we offer an exciting pathway for aspiring nurses through our CNA to LPN Walkway. This unique opportunity is designed for students eager to kickstart their journey into the Practical Nursing program.

By completing the required CNA walkway courses at MWCC with the necessary grades, students will earn automatic acceptance into the Practical Nursing program, paving the way for their future success in the field.

To begin the journey on our CNA to LPN Walkway, students must attend a Selective Programs Info Session and complete the General Application for Admission and select the CNA to LPN Walkway. It’s that simple to take the first step towards a rewarding career in nursing!

Steps to Complete:

If you are interested in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Walkway program, here are the steps and timeline you will follow:

1. Complete the General Application for Admission and select the Allied Health – CNA to LPN Guaranteed Admission Program as the program you are applying for.
2. Complete the following classes:

  • PSY 105 – Intro to Psychology
  • MAT 126 – Topics in Mathematics or MAT 143 – Statistics: Complete with a C+ or higher (completed within <10 years of application)
  • NUR 117 – Nurse Assistant Theory Complete with B or higher, and must be completed at MWCC.
  • ENG 101 – College Writing I
  • BIO 152 – Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology: Complete with a C+ or higher
  • PSY 110 – Human Growth and Development
  • HEA 106 – Exploring Health Careers: Complete with a B or higher. This course includes healthcare basics such as CPR, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogens.

3. While you’re preparing to enroll in the PN program, attend a Selective Information Session where you will learn about the admissions process for this competitive program, the requirements for consideration, and talk to faculty.
4. Sit for the state CNA licensure! Note: if you are already a CNA, you do not need to sit for the licensure, but you are still required to take NUR 117 at MWCC.
5. When required classes are complete and you are ready to apply, you will take the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skill) test, which is specifically designed to assess your preparedness for health sciences.

  1. TEAS must be taken at MWCC and within 365 days of the application deadline, September 1 and must be completed by the application deadline.
    2. Required scores are: Math 50.0, Science 35.4, English 53.3, and Reading 54.8.

6. Time to apply for the LPN program! Apply by September 1 in order to start in January. Complete the Practical Nursing (PN) certificate application and submit it along with all required documents by September 1.

This course is offered every semester and covers essential topics such as CPR, HIPAA/Bloodborne Pathogens, QPR (Question/Persuade/Refer), and Narcan Training. With fully online delivery, students benefit from the flexibility to participate in Zoom lab sessions from 9-11am, allowing for interactive learning experiences and convenient scheduling. Whether you’re considering a career change or aiming to broaden your horizons in healthcare, HEA 106 provides the necessary foundation to chart your path towards success in the dynamic field of health professions.
