Work in Healthcare Without Providing Direct Care
Health information management (HIM) is a little-known, but vital component of the healthcare process which helps ensure that the healthcare organization is compliant with state and federal regulations regarding capture, storage, and release of all medical data. This field is seeing rapid expansion with major federal initiatives that will require the significant new hiring of HIM credentialed people to meet workforce needs over the next ten years. Graduates will be eligible to enter the workforce as medical coders, documentation/coding specialist, and HIM revenue cycle auditors. Most health information management courses are available in an online format. For more general information about this career, visit the American HIM Association.
The HIM Associate degree program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
