Practical Nursing

Description: A licensed practical nurse (LPN) participates in direct and indirect nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, collaborative planning, and rehabilitation. LPNs work under the direction of registered nurses, physicians, and/or dentists. MWCC’s Practical Nursing Certificate provides short-term education leading to a rewarding healthcare career. The college credits earned in this program may be applied toward a nursing degree.

Exam: Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

Accreditation: The program is approved by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing: ACEN; 61 Broadway – 33rd Floor; New York, NY 10006; (800) 669-1656, ext. 153; www.acenursing.org. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

Paramedic Technology

Description: This program is designed to provide current basic emergency medical technicians with one year’s work experience the opportunity to advance to paramedic level certification.

Exam: This program will prepare students to be eligible to take the Massachusetts psychomotor exam for paramedics and the written National Registry Exam for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as paramedics.

Accreditation: The Mount Wachusett Community College Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP Executive Office). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status. It is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT’s Paramedic credentialing examination(s).
