JM Pet Vet Clinic located on the Easton/Brockton line off Route 24 in Massachusetts is searching for motivated individuals that thrive in a fast pace work environment to join our Veterinary team as we prepare for our expansion!

Essential Job Functions

  • Can provide compassionate care to patients and empathetic communication to pet parents at all times
  • Can conduct oneself in a confident, professional manner at all times including stressful situations such as medical emergencies
  • Can effectively restrain pets including large or uncooperative animals following protocols for safety
  • Utilizes minimal restraint (fear-free) techniques whenever possible in support of practice mission
  • Understands vaccination policies and protocols and can explain to clients
  • Gives SQ, IM and IV injections at the direction of Veterinarian and follows clinical safety guidelines
  • Understands the importance of a clean orderly facility; proactively cleans/organizes work areas throughout the shift and at end of work day as required
  • Cleans, sterilize and maintain instruments, equipment and materials
  • Can effectively assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery, administers anesthesia including intubation; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids
  • Can properly care for all surgical materials including autoclaving, keeping operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery
  • Can perform emergency procedures such as controlling bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways and external cardiac massage
  • Can perform clinical laboratory procedures including fecal floatation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings and urinalysis; draws blood for lab analysis
  • Maintains file of lab test results, records in patient records; ensures samples are prepared for pickup by outside lab and notifies lab if no pickup is necessary
  • Can place IV catheters and properly care for them
  • Knows common disease states and can alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients
  • Can admit patients following hospital policy and doctors written orders
  • Can discharge patients based on Veterinarian’s orders ensuring patients have written discharge orders, proper medications, are well-groomed and are in a medically appropriate state
  • Can review a medical record and prepare appropriate vaccines and medical equipment for veterinarian
  • Can record in and read an Electronic Medical Record (EMR); knows proper procedures for saving, retrieving and deleting an EMR
  • Can enter charges on patient medical records including prescriptions, vaccine tag information, weight and departure instructions
  • Communicates Veterinarian’s recommendations and follow-up instructions to the Receptionist
  • Responsible to alert management immediately of any issues concerning client, patient or staff that could potentially create a bottleneck
  • Can maintain accurate and legible medical records and follow directives for hard copy filing
  • Can learn and accurately use multiple software applications for data recording, client communications, internal communications and inventory management
  • Can prepare/maintain exam and treatment rooms meeting set standards for cleanliness and readiness
  • Can accurately perform objective physical assessments and record findings as required
  • Attends/participates in all staff meetings; attends external continuing education events annually
  • Contributes to development of practice’s strategic business plan
  • Performs other duties as assigned including other departments/service areas
  • Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with all employees
  • Can prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies
  • Can maintain an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system
  • Understands usage, dosage and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs and readily explain them to clients
  • Can handle client’s medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarian when appropriate
  • Can successfully manage multiple priorities; can shift priorities in accordance with unexpected incidents
  • Learn, understand and identify universal canine body language and recognizable dog behaviors
  • Learn and interpret dog body language to anticipate reactions; make sound judgments to maximize safe outcomes
  • Follow all handling guidelines to safely navigate dogs throughout the facility
  • Learn and follow color-coded caution system describing employee restrictions and permissions for dog handling
  • Adhere to changing work schedule which requires rotating shifts, weekend shifts, holidays and overtime in accordance with business needs
  • Take on any additional tasks or projects within the facility as requested
  • Follow dress code guidelines including hair tied back/up as an important safety protocol; present in a neat, clean and hygienic manner at all times.
  • Maintain excellent attendance record with on-time arrival

Physical Demands

  • Standing and Bending: Must be able to conduct majority of shift on foot, frequently in a bent position
  • Lifting from floor to exam table:Must be able to lift dogs up to 40 lbs.; with assistance from 1 person, must be able to lift dog up to 100 lbs.;with assistance from 2 others, must be able to lift dog up to 150 lbs. NOTE: Dogs being lifted are generally anesthetized and virtually are at a “dead” weight
  • Walking: Must be able to walk throughout the facility, often leading a dog on a leash

Computer Skills

  • Must be able to use multiple platforms effectively to meet business needs including Vetter, OneNote, Gingr, When I Work and Microsoft Office software
  • Must be able to learn and easily adapt to new technology

Qualifications

  • 3+ years professional work experience as a Veterinary Technician
  • Genuinely enjoys helping people and their pets; can handle the stress when animals are ill or in pain
  • Shows patience and empathy to clients that are emotionally charged and in all other interactions
  • Highly organized; works well in a team setting; able to shift priorities in accordance with unexpected events
  • Remains calm and efficient during a medical crisis
  • Comfortable interacting with dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes
  • Follow rotating work schedule (e.g. nights, weekends and holidays)
  • Reliable and dependable; maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Strong work ethic; sets high standards for self and others
  • Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness

Education

  • Associates Degree preferred
  • Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) desirable
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
