MWCC Enhances Campus Safety With Emergency Blue Light Call Boxes

Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) has strengthened its commitment to campus safety with the installation and maintenance of emergency Blue Light Call Boxes in three locations on campus (Parking Lot B, Parking Lot C, and the Track), providing students, employees, and visitors with direct access to campus police in the event of an emergency.

Strategically located in high-traffic areas outside of the campus buildings, the highly visible blue emergency call boxes offer a simple, reliable way to contact the MWCC Campus Police Department. By pressing the emergency button, users are immediately connected to campus police dispatch, allowing officers to quickly assess the situation and respond to emergencies.

“Creating a safe and welcoming learning environment is one of our highest priorities,” said Chief of Campus Police & Public Safety, Dr. Melissa Croteau. “These emergency call boxes provide another important layer of security, ensuring that help is only the push of a button away.”

The Blue Light Call Boxes are available 24 hours a day and are designed to:

• Provide immediate communication with Campus Police in these high-traffic outside areas where cell signal may not be reliable.
• Help responders quickly identify the caller’s location.
• Enhance safety for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
• Offer peace of mind while traveling across campus, especially during evening hours.

The emergency call boxes complement MWCC’s comprehensive campus safety program, which includes licensed special state police officers, emergency preparedness planning, security cameras, safety escorts when available, and emergency notification systems.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the locations of the Blue Light Call Boxes and to use them in the event of an emergency, to report suspicious activity, or whenever immediate assistance is needed.

MWCC reminds all members of the campus community that if they witness suspicious behavior or have a safety concern, they should contact the MWCC Campus Police Department immediately (978-630-9111). In the event of a life-threatening emergency, individuals should call 911.
