MWCC Hosts Screening Of More Than Blue, Documentary Exploring Postpartum Depression
Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) will host a screening of More Than Blue, a documentary exploring postpartum depression and other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, on Tuesday, October 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the South Café at MWCC’s Gardner campus.
Doors will open at 4:00 pm and the screening will begin promptly at 5:00 pm. A panel discussion including members from the community and the film, and an opportunity to connect with community partners and resources will follow the screening.
More Than Blue brings together the real stories of families from across the country to illuminate the experiences of those affected by postpartum depression and other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Pairing personal stories with expert perspectives, the documentary seeks to increase understanding of conditions that often go unseen, unheard, or untreated.
The film explores postpartum depression, anxiety, psychosis, and related conditions while examining the gaps that can remain between screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Through both personal experiences and scientific insight, More Than Blue aims to reduce stigma, encourage conversations about maternal mental health, and emphasize the importance of connecting individuals and families with appropriate care and support.
The MWCC Student Parent Supports and Counseling and Wellness offices are hosting the screening as part of their ongoing work to support students who are balancing college with the responsibilities of raising a family.
“Student parents are often balancing their education with work, childcare, family responsibilities, and their own well-being,” said Ann Reynolds, Director of Student Parent Supports at MWCC. “Events like this give us an opportunity to collaborate across offices and with the community to bring important conversations into the open, connect families with resources, and remind our student parents that support is available both here at the Mount and throughout our community.”
The event will take place in the South Café at Mount Wachusett Community College, 444 Green Street, Gardner. Refreshments will be available beginning at 4 p.m., with the film beginning promptly at 5 p.m. A brief panel discussion and opportunity to connect with community partners from Making Opportunity Count and North Quabbin Health Collaborative will follow the screening. Registration is requested.
