Join The Movement For A Stronger Community

At the Senator Stephen M. Brewer Center for Civic Learning and Community Engagement, we’re not just running programs, we’re building a movement. Every event we host, every student we connect with a local nonprofit, every idea we help bring to life, and every community partnership we nurture is part of a bigger vision: creating real, lasting change in our communities.

We believe that civic engagement should be energizing, inspiring, and impactful, and we want you to be part of it! Whether you’re a student, a community member, or part of an organization, there’s a place for you in this work.

Service Site Requirements

Interested in hosting MWCC students through the Brewer Center? Awesome! Here’s what your organization needs to provide to ensure a meaningful and successful experience for everyone involved:

Your site should have a designated office or public area (like a library or community center). For safety reasons, students will not enter private homes.

Someone from your organization should be available to oversee the project and support students, especially those who are just getting started in civic engagement work.

If you’re hosting students or large student groups, we’ll coordinate a site visit at a mutually convenient time to ensure everything is set up for success.

Throughout a student’s placement, we’ll ask you to complete a short evaluation and impact survey. This helps us understand how students are contributing to your organization and allows us to measure the broader impact they’re making across our community.

Create a welcoming space that encourages students to stay engaged and committed. A little mentorship goes a long way!

Together, we’re shaping the next generation of civic leaders and making a real difference in our communities.

Host A MWCC Student

Partnering with the Brewer Center is a great way to connect with passionate, purpose-driven students while supporting your organization’s mission. We work closely with community partners to find the best fit for both students and host sites. There are several ways to get involved:

Mature business teacher supervising happy student writing notes

Internships

Looking for a deeper commitment? Internship placements allow students to serve 120–300 hours over a semester. These experiences offer meaningful support to your organization while giving students hands-on professional learning in a community-focused setting.

Service Learning

Students complete a set number of hours with your organization as part of a course. Their work is tied directly to academic objectives and real community needs- bringing classroom learning to life!

Volunteering

Join our GivePulse community to post one-time or ongoing volunteer opportunities. Whether it’s help at an event or weekly service shifts, you’ll connect with students eager to make a difference.
