The Mount’s nursing students played an integral role in the City of Gardner’s vaccination process, starting with the first clinic day the Heywood Healthcare clinic was opened at the PACC on February 4, 2021. Mount Wachusett Community College Director of Nursing, Dr. Kimberly Shea, nursing faculty and students supported the clinic in every way they could, from administering doses to monitoring and caring for community members following their shot.
The proclamation states:
“Whereas, nurses provide both primary and preventative essential care to patients and are an indispensable component in the quality of medical care in a healthy nation; and
Whereas nursing students have served a critical role in this endeavor by undertaking this challenging career path to ensure that our medical facilities will be able to provide excellent care in the future; and
Whereas student nurses are on the cutting edge of technology, learning the latest life-saving techniques, while continuing to practice skills that have been built on past proven medical science; and
Whereas the Nursing students at Mount Wachusett Community College have played an integral role in the City of Gardner’s vaccination process at the Polish American Citizens club and that the City of Gardner would not be as successful in its vaccination efforts had it not been for the service provided by the dedicated nursing students of Mount Wachusett Community College; now
Therefore, In recognition of the fact that now more than ever our Nation’s future depends on the health and well-being of its citizens, and the essential role that our nurses and nursing students play in our country I, Michael Joseph Nicholson, serving as the twentieth Mayor of the City of Gardner, alongside Elizabeth John Karzinskas, serving as the twenty-sixth City Council President, do hereby proclaim May 23-29th, 2021 to be Nursing Student Appreciation Week here in the City of Gardner, and we further name Thursday, May 27th 2021 as Mount Wachusett Community College Nursing Day here in the City of Gardner to help raise awareness in our community, and as a sign of our eternal gratitude for all those who helped us here, in a pandemic unlike anything the world has seen in a hundred years.”
