Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts Awards $5,000 Grant to Support MWCC Food Pantry

Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) has received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts (CFNCM) to support food security initiatives through the MWCC food pantry, Monty’s Market, to help ensure students have access to nutritious food while pursuing their education.

The funding will directly support the college’s ongoing efforts to address food insecurity among students by expanding access to essential grocery items and related resources. The MWCC food pantry serves students across the college community, with locations in Gardner and Leominster, providing discreet and reliable assistance to help reduce barriers to academic success.

“We are grateful to the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts for their generous support,” said Carla Zottoli, MWCC Foundation Director. “This gift strengthens our ability to meet students’ basic needs and reinforces the importance of community partnerships in supporting student success.”

Food insecurity remains a significant challenge for many community college students, often impacting retention, academic performance, and overall well-being. Donations such as this allow MWCC to respond to immediate needs while continuing to build long-term solutions focused on equity and access.

“The support the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts provides to MWCC’s students reflects a shared commitment to educational opportunity and community well-being,” stated MWCC President James Vander Hooven.
