The Mount Wachusett Community College Foundation has announced the establishment of the Ram Lal Seekri Endowed Scholarship, created through the generosity of Professor Raj P. Seekri and Mrs. Raj K. Seekri.
Established through an endowment agreement signed on April 6, 2026, the scholarship honors the life and legacy of Ram Lal Seekri, a respected community leader whose lifelong commitment to service and belief in the power of education impacted communities in both India and the United States.
The endowed scholarship will provide financial assistance to MWCC students with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to Massachusetts residents, and students in any field of study are eligible. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books.
Professor and Mrs. Seekri have demonstrated a deep and ongoing commitment to expanding access to education. Through their investments, they have established endowed scholarships at 58 colleges and universities nationwide; including at SUNY Empire State University, the University of Rhode Island, Tarleton State University, Dallas College, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of North Texas. MWCC is the first institution in Massachusetts to be selected.
“This scholarship reflects a powerful legacy of generosity, service, and respect for education,” said MWCC Foundation Director Carla Zottoli. “We are grateful to Professor and Mrs. Seekri for their vision and for creating opportunities that will support MWCC students for generations to come.”
The scholarship was created as a tribute to Professor Seekri’s father, whose influence as a trusted counselor and community leader extended across continents.
“The Ram Lal Seekri Endowed Scholarship is a tribute to my father, whose life was a blessing to his family and the communities in which he lived, both in India and the United States,” said Professor Raj P. Seekri. “His dedication to serving others and his deep respect for education shaped generations of our family. It is our hope that these values—generosity, service to others, and education for all—will live on through the students who benefit from this scholarship.”
Known for his wisdom, humility, and generosity, Ram Lal Seekri was widely respected for his guidance and leadership. While raising his family in India, he was sought out by members of his community for counsel and support, and he remained committed to serving others after immigrating to the United States. His belief in education, particularly at a time when access was limited, set him apart and continues to inspire his family.
“It is in honor of his gracious humility that we have established this scholarship,” Professor Seekri added. “We hope his legacy will continue through those who are supported by this gift and that they, in turn, will uplift and empower others.”
The endowment will provide annual awards in accordance with MWCC Foundation policies, ensuring long-term support for students while preserving the fund in perpetuity.
Endowed scholarships play a vital role in expanding access to higher education by providing sustainable, long-term financial support. The Ram Lal Seekri Endowed Scholarship will also share the story and values of its namesake with recipients, reinforcing a legacy of service, generosity, and educational opportunity.
