Tips For Crime Prevention

Always be aware of your surroundings. If you see suspicious persons or unusual behavior on campus, immediately call the Campus Police and Public Safety Department at extension 1111 from any phone on the campus or 978-630-9111 from a cell phone.

  • Trust your instincts, if you feel uncomfortable about a situation then you should attempt to leave the area
  • Know the locations of emergency phones on campus and how to get emergency help
  • Program emergency numbers into your cell phone
  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Be cautious of people that stop and ask for directions; stay a distance away from the vehicle
  • If at all possible never walk alone; you are much safer traveling in groups
  • Be confident while walking; maintain eye contact with people

  • Keep your keys in your hand, in case you need to leave quickly
  • Always keep doors locked and windows rolled up
  • Any valuable items should be kept out of sight in the trunk or glove compartment
  • Never leave your keys in the vehicle, or leave your doors unlocked
  • Before entering your vehicle check in and around it
  • Never pick up a stranger, and never go with a stranger that offers you a ride. Instead have
  • them call help for you
  • Always park in a well-lit area

  • Lock unoccupied offices, even if you are only leaving for a few minutes
  • Keep desks and drawers locked
  • Store money or valuables in a secure spot

  • Never leave your purse, wallet, or other property unattended
  • Don’t give personal information to anyone over the telephone
  • Don’t write any PIN numbers on your ATM or credit cards

Free Community Trainings

Mount Wachusett Community College Campus Police and Public Safety Department offers a variety of training to the campus community including students, faculty, and staff. Training is made available to groups and will be shown on this page. If you see a training that does not have an upcoming date you can request the training by contacting the Campus Police Department.

Information bulletins and handouts are also made available on a variety of topics throughout the year.

All below training is offered for FREE to the MWCC community.

The Campus Police Department offers the above training on a variety of dates throughout the year, or by request of a group. This course gives information on how faculty, staff, and students have different options (Alert, Lock-down, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) to do during an active shooter/violent intruder on campus. This training runs for approximately 1 hour. There is no need to sign up for the training and there is no maximum number of participants.

Presented by the Campus Police Department and Student Services, this program educates college students about the dangers of driving while intoxicated. There is no need to sign up to participate in this program and there is no maximum number of participants.

The Campus Police Department offers the above training on a variety of dates through the year, or by request of a group. RAD is Americas’ largest self-defense program for women only. The program educates females in the area of preventing sexual assault. RAD is taught over the course of multiple sessions. It is important for females participating in the program to make it to all classes. The maximum number of participants for this course is 20. Please sign up to participate by emailing Officer Kirkwood at jkirkwood@mwcc.mass.edu.
