MEET OUR NEW COSTUMER
Julia Whalen joins the production team for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels as Costumer. She hails originally from Washington, D.C. and is a freelance costume designer based in Northampton, MA.
Julia earned her MFA in Costume Design from Indiana University, and her BA in
Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies from Washington University in St. Louis.
This is Julia’s first time designing in MA! Some previous costume design credits include: King Lear (Indiana University), Sunday in the Park with George (Indiana University), The Pillowman (Indiana University), several new plays and performance art pieces with Inverted Hermit theatre company in Brooklyn, NY, and the Monster Literature children’s theatre series based in Brooklyn, NY. Julia enjoys working as a crafts and props maker as well, having done props for Cat in the Hat at Cardinal Stage in Bloomington, IN, masks for the touring educational program Reimagining Opera for Kids, and millinery for LaTraviata at Jacobs School of Music.
Julia lives with her awesome husband Reynolds and dog Captain. She enjoys being an occasional touring hand percussionist and backup singer for her musician sister, Olivia Mancini, pub trivia, and novels. More of her work can be found at her website, juliavincenzawhalen.com
