Employer Guidelines & Policies

Career Service’s Recruiting Guidelines have been developed according to NACE principles to assist employers in the recruitment of qualified candidates and provide students and alumni with opportunities to explore internships and career options.

When recruiting, posting jobs, attending career fairs, or hosting information sessions and employer-led events at MWCC, employers agree to abide by all policies and guidelines listed on this page. Employers who recruit on our campus must also adhere to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice, and the guidelines established by MWCC.

Career Services reserves the right to refuse to accept an employer, list job openings, or any recruitment event if the organization has violated one of the NACE Principles for Professional Practice, EEO guidelines, or any MWCC guidelines.

Non-Discrimination

Career Services makes its services available to employers who do not unlawfully discriminate in selecting employees based on national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other basis prohibited by applicable law. As such, employers must comply with non-discrimination practices. Positions posted on Handshake must comply with all federal and state affirmative action and equal employment regulations.

Any organization that does not endorse this policy will be denied access to Career Services at MWCC, its resources, and other campus facilities and services.

Career Services staff will investigate all complaints by students and/or faculty regarding job postings, employers, or work assignments. If Career Services determines that a complaint is justified, the office may choose not to post positions or allow the recruiting representatives the opportunity to recruit on our campus in the future. Career Services will notify the employer of the decision in writing, via email, or by traditional mail.

Employers looking to hire MWCC students are encouraged to post all opportunities via Handshake. Career Services regularly displays current opportunities in our office, produces a monthly newsletter for students, and forwards major-specific job opportunities to appropriate faculty and staff members.

Employers looking to post an opportunity outside of Handshake are required to connect directly with a Career Services team member. Please note that Career Services reserves the right to review all job postings to verify the following requirements have been met, postings that do not meet these criteria will not be approved:

Posting Requirements

  • All positions must comply with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Jobs should be appropriate for college students (entry-level, internships, or experienced positions suitable for recent graduates based on MWCC’s current academic offerings.)
  • Employers must provide a detailed/transparent job description outlining duties, qualifications, and required skills. The rate of pay for all paid positions must meet the Massachusetts State minimum wage guidelines or the minimum wage guidelines for the state of hire and must be disclosed in full.

Organizations seeking to post volunteer opportunities within a 45-minute radius should connect with staff in the Brewer Center for Civic Learning and Community Engagement.

For safety and liability concerns, Career Services office will not post house or family job listings where an employee will work out of someone else’s dwelling (house, apartment, condo, etc.) or door-to-door. This includes childcare, tutoring, domestic care, pet care, skilled labor, in-home sales, home-based organizations, etc. Students and community members interested in engaging in these employment categories may consider Care.com, Sittercity.com, Taskrabbit.com and Rover.com.

Workforce Wednesday

Offered at our Gardner campus throughout the fall and spring semester, Workforce Wednesday creates a forum for students to learn more about employment opportunities, while also allowing the chance to further develop their own professional network. Career Services seeks out employers that represent a variety of industries and opportunities that align with our current academic programs.

Hosted on select Wednesdays from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm throughout the fall and spring semesters, there is no fee to reserve a table. However, employer registration is hosted exclusively on Handshake. Please reach out to Career Services via email for assistance setting up your Handshake account.

Career Fairs

Organized each fall and spring, our Career Fairs will feature up to 40 employers from a variety of industries that are actively hiring part-time, full-time and internship opportunities. In addition to employers, participants will have access to various professional development opportunities including panel discussions with local business leaders. These events are open to current MWCC students and alumni.

Contact careerservices@mwcc.mass.edu for our current schedule and registration information.

Military Recruiting

Military representatives are welcome to join on-campus recruiting events. Just like our private and non-profit partners, they'll have the opportunity to share information about their branch and explore career paths with interested students. All recruiting activities will take place at the designated recruiting table and will align with the guidelines and policies established for our employer partners.

Military recruiters are invited to Contact Career Services to discuss recruiting opportunities at MWCC.

Employers interested in recruiting students in a specific academic department, speaking in front of a class, or connecting with a student group on campus are asked to please contact Career Services directly so we may act as a liaison if the connection is welcomed by the group and is an appropriate match.
