Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) has received approval from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), pending state and federal appropriation, for the continuance of the highly successful MassLINKS Adult Education Virtual School.
MassLINKS, launched by the Baker-Polito administration in 2022, is the first fully virtual educational option for Massachusetts adults statewide who are seeking their high school equivalency, GED or HiSET, or English language instruction. MassLINKS classes are free for all adults, increasing access to learning opportunities by eliminating transportation barriers and giving learners the flexibility to take classes that work with their schedules. In its first year, MassLINKS served 1,079 students.
MWCC provides instruction in partnership with DESE’s Office for Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) and complements the network of local training providers. The FY2025 plan seeks to provide adult basic education to 330 students and ESOL education to 450 students.
“Expanding access to educational opportunities is at the core of our mission,” stated MWCC President James Vander Hooven. “This program has provided transformative education to residents, improving lives and families across the Commonwealth.”
