Only Community College in Massachusetts to Earn Gold Star Recognition
Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) has been recognized by U.S. Veterans Magazine as a 2025 Top Veteran-Friendly School, additionally earning the prestigious Gold Star designation. MWCC is the only community college in Massachusetts to receive this honor and one of only seven institutions statewide to be included on the list.
Each year, U.S. Veterans Magazine conducts a national evaluation to identify schools and organizations that go above and beyond in supporting veterans and transitioning service members. The publication’s Top Veteran-Friendly Schools list highlights institutions that demonstrate long-term commitment, measurable impact, and comprehensive support for veterans and their families.
“We are honored to once again be recognized for our commitment to our student veterans,” said James Vander Hooven, Ed.D., President of Mount Wachusett Community College. “Our veterans and military-affiliated students bring tremendous leadership, discipline, and perspective to our campus community. This designation reflects our continued dedication to ensuring they have the resources and support they need to thrive.”
The MWCC Veteran Services Department was established specifically to address the unique academic, financial, physical, and social needs of veterans transitioning from soldier to student. Staff are committed to providing military service members, veterans, and their families with assistance and guidance throughout their academic career at MWCC.
MWCC serves dozens of veterans, veteran dependents, and military-connected students each year. The college provides academic credit for military experience, tailored career services, and a strong network of peer and community support to help veterans transition successfully to academic and civilian life.
“Our mission has always been to make sure those who served our country have the tools and guidance to achieve their educational and career goals,” said Director of Veteran Services Robert Mayer. “Recognition like this affirms the work we do every day.”
