MWCC Celebrates Black History and Women’s History Months with Speaker and Performance

MWCC Hosts Queen ShebaMount Wachusett Community College is hosting two guests for an evening of dialogue and performance in celebration of Black History and Women’s History months at 5:00 pm on Thursday, February 29th in the South Café at the Gardner Campus.

The evening will begin with a spoken word performance by Queen Sheba, an internationally known spoken word poet, motivational speaker, comedian and author. Born in Detroit, MI and now living in Atlanta, GA, Queen Sheba is the co-founder of the award-winning Poetry vs. Hip-Hop the production and the organization, and International 4 Countries Slam Champion, and two-time National Poetry Slam Champ. Sheba has released six albums, two of which were Grammy nominees in the Spoken Word category, and she is a two-time NAACP Image Award Nominee.

Following Queen Sheba will be a presentation by Ron Jones, Executive Director/Artistic Principal at Dialogues on Diversity, a premier social justice and diversity theater company. Jones will be presenting “Her Investment” the story of the strained relationship women have always had with the American banking system and of one young Black woman who is determined to change the game for all women. Through this journey she tries to enlighten some of her classmates to a world too often denied to women simply because of gender.

This event is free and open to the public, however, guests must RSVP at mwcc.edu/speaker. The event is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and the Student Government Association.
