High School Juniors & Seniors – Earn College Credit at MWCC!

Picture of Firetrucks Attention all High School Juniors and Seniors – are you looking to earn college credit while still in high school? We have two opportunities this spring for you! These courses begin on January 17th and are available to Massachusetts High School Juniors and Seniors who are looking for immediate advancement after graduation.

FST155 – Principles of Emergency Services

Have you ever thought about a career in fire protection or emergency services? Jumpstart your career and earn FREE college credit through Mount Wachusett Community College’s Principles of Emergency Services (FST155) course. The goal of the course is to provide students with an overview of fire protection and emergency services and highlight career opportunities related to the fields.

The course is hybrid and takes place online and at the Ayer Fire Department one Saturday morning per month. Majority of the content will run online with no meeting times during the week. Throughout the duration of the course students will learn about the culture and history of emergency services; fire loss analysis; organization and function of public and private fire protection services; fire departments as part of local government; laws and regulations affecting the fire service; fire service nomenclature; specific fire protection functions; basic fire chemistry and physics; introduction to fire protection systems; introduction to fire strategy and tactics; and life safety initiatives.

PSY105 – Introduction to Psychology

This online course introduces students to the basic concepts and methods of psychology. Course content surveys scientific methods, the brain and nervous system, sensation and perception, consciousness, learning and memory, personality, psychological disorders, and treatment. Introduction to Psychology is a standard core course that most college students are required to take in their first year of college. The credits earned in this MWCC PSY105 course transfer to the following universities as part of the MassTransfer Course Equivalencies: Bridgewater State, Fitchburg State, Framingham State, Mass. Maritime, MCLA, Salem State, UMass Amherst, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth, UMass Lowell, Westfield State, and Worcester State.
