The Brewer Center for Civic Learning and Community Engagement recognized 148 students for their volunteerism in the 2024-2025 school year during their annual Civic and Service-Learning Celebration on May 7th. Volunteers included more than 30 students who contributed over 300 hours each, eight who contributed over 200 hours each, and 14 who contributed over 100 hours. Overall, MWCC students gave 12,880 hours of service to the community during the academic year, impacting over 1,000 individuals.
“We believe very deeply that service is interwoven in our mission here at MWCC,” said MWCC President James Vander Hooven. “The number of hours you have given to your community in addition to balancing your academic work and all of life’s responsibilities is amazing. Thank you for making a positive difference for us here, and to all of north central Massachusetts region.”
“On behalf of the Brewer Center, thank you for all you have done and continue to do. The world is truly a better place because you are each in it,” stated Brewer Center Director David Thibault-Munoz.
The Community Partner of the Year was awarded to GAAMHA, Inc. for the significant impact their work has for the community.
“GAAMHA has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to supporting MWCC in all of its initiatives,” stated Brewer Center Staff Assistant Katt Bosworth. “Their dedication to fostering meaningful partnerships and actively engaging in community outreach efforts has uplifted marginalized populations and strengthened our community. By hosting volunteers and interns they have provided invaluable experience for our students, empowering them to make a difference. GAMMHA’s ongoing efforts to address the needs of underserved populations through their services and outreach initiatives highlights their deep commitment to inclusivity, advocacy, and empowerment. GAAMHA embodies the essence of the Partner of the Year Award, their impact has been profound, and we are proud to recognize their remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication to our community.”
