Adult Education & Training

The Adult Education and Training Center at Mount Wachusett Community College offers free classes in Adult Basic Education (ABE), high school equivalency preparation, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

ABE and ASE (Adult Secondary Education) classes at various levels are offered both in the mornings and evenings to help adults improve reading, writing and math skills in preparation for the MA High School Equivalency assessment. The entire staff and student body invite adult learners to participate in a comfortable, non-threatening learning experience.

Adults from various cultural backgrounds come together to learn to read, write, speak, and listen to the English language. Foreign speaking adults are placed in introductory, beginning, or intermediate classes to improve their communication, reading, and writing skills. The diverse population represents people of various ages. All instruction is in English.

All day and evening classes are free of charge thanks to funding by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Employment Links, and the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation.

"I grew up below poverty level and school, education just wasn’t a priority. I dropped out of high school. I had no real formal education, or goals, or ambitions to even go to school. That’s why I came back as a non-traditional student later on in life – to try to put the pieces of my life back together."

Gemini Walter, Human Services (Adult Basic Education) 2017 Graduate
