About the Test

The ATI TEAS, or Test of Essential Academic Skills, is a standardized test designed specifically to assess a student’s preparedness for entering the health science fields. Questions are designed to test the basic academic skills you will need to perform successfully in the areas of: Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage.

The ATI TEAS has been statistically proven to be a valid predictor of early nursing school success. Your score on the TEAS is one measure of academic preparedness that helps MWCC consider your acceptance into our nursing program(s).

The ATI TEAS test is comprised of 170 questions that are formatted as both multiple choice items with 4 answer options and alternate-type items. This includes 150 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions. Students have 209 minutes to complete the exam.

For students testing on or after June 3, 2022 (ATI TEAS, Version 7), the number of questions in each content section and subsection are as follows:

  • Reading – 45 questions (55 minutes)
  • Math – 38 questions (57 minutes)
  • Science – 50 questions (60 minutes)
  • English & Language Usage – 37 questions (37 minutes)

    • Use the Sixth or Seventh Edition (whichever you are taking) Study Manual and practice assessments. It is for sale on the ATI website and available for use in the MWCC Library.
    • MWCC strongly recommends that applicants complete program pre-and-co-requisite courses especially English Composition I, Math and a four-credit lab science before taking the TEAS Test to enhance their knowledge base.

All the TEAS dates are full at MWCC, what do I do now?
Contact Testing Services to find out if sessions will be added.  You may have to wait until the next semester to be admitted to the program.

I took the test somewhere else, how does MWCC get my scores?
Contact ATI to have your scores sent to MWCC Testing Services.  Scores will only be accepted from ATI, not the other test site, another school, or the student.

Do I need to retake the whole test again if I already passed some sections?
All sections will be given, but you may click through the sections you already passed.  The passing score from your earlier attempt is still valid and will be applied.

Is the fee lower if I already passed some sections?
No, the fee is $101 for all attempts.

Can I use a calculator for the test?
ATI TEAS will allow for the use of a four-function calculator, embedded within the exam online.  Although a calculator will be permitted, all questions are written to be solvable without the use of a calculator.
